Twin Cities Neighbors Launch “Shop in Solidarity” Days to Deliver Direct Support to Immigrant-Owned Businesses

Twin Cities residents have launched “Shop in Solidarity” days, a neighbor-led initiative that encourages community members to provide tangible economic support to immigrant-owned markets, grocers, boutiques, and retail shops affected by recent immigration enforcement activity.

Heightened enforcement has generated fear, reduced foot traffic, and contributed to staffing disruptions and closures across many corridors. Neighbors have the power to respond in a practical way.

Presence matters and purchases matter. When neighbors choose to walk through the door and spend locally, they help keep businesses open and families secure.

Shop in Solidarity calls on residents to visit participating stores, purchase everyday necessities, find meaningful gifts, and perhaps discover something new while investing in the small businesses that anchor neighborhood life.

Organizers stress that the initiative is community-driven and powered by neighbors who recognize that everyday purchases can also be material acts of solidarity.

This is about turning routine shopping into real support. Whether it’s groceries, a good book, a head scarf, vintage clothing, or a small gift, these purchases add up and let business owners know they are not alone.

Participation is voluntary. There is no cost for businesses to join and no obligation placed on visitors beyond acting with respect and care.

Information about participating locations and ways to get involved is available on the Shop in Solidarity website (www.shopinsolidarity.com).
